- Former president Goodluck Jonathan reportedly met Bayelsa governor, Seriake Dickson in Imo state
- The two leaders met at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Nguru, Aboh-Mbaise in Imo state during a thanksgiving service organised for Dr Kennedy Opara
- The relationship between the two political leaders had gone bad owing to the developments surrounding the last governorship election in Bayelsa state
Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan, and his political protégé, Seriake Dickson, the governor of Bayelsa state, reportedly met each other on Sunday, January 19.
Daily Trust reports that the duo met at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Nguru, Aboh-Mbaise in Imo state during a thanksgiving service organised to Dr Kennedy Opara’s birthday celebration.
Legit.ng notes that the relationship between the two political leaders went bad over the developments surrounding the last governorship election in Bayelsa state, which saw the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) losing to the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the first time since 1999.
Jonathan was accused of supporting the APC against his own party due to the alleged disagreement between him and Dickson.
The former president has not, however, publicly reacted to the allegations while the PDP also said that there was no evidence to prove the allegations against him.
Legit.ng notes that social media users are wondering whether the two political leaders have put the past behind them after the reported meeting in Imo state.
A check at their official social media pages, however, indicate that they did not share pictures of the events where they reportedly met.

The crisis between the duo heightened when Governor Dickson refused to personally commiserate with Jonathan when his Otuoke home was attacked in December 2019.
While other dignitaries sympathised with Jonathan, Governor Dickson's statement over the incident, according to observers, opened up suspicions that the Bayelsa governor had not forgiven his political boss over his alleged role in the election.
Ijaw leaders in the state were concerned that Governor Dickson's reaction to the incident was conspicuously delayed and when he eventually reacted, he did not mention Jonathan's name.
A statement released by his aide only condemned in"condemned in strong terms the attack on a military post in Ogbia local government area of the state".
Since his defeat in 2015, Jonathan's political participation has waned as he engages more in statesmanly activities.
