Breaking: APC defeats PDP in Plateau as Supreme Court upholds Lalong’s election

- Supreme Court has upheld the election of Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau state

- Lalong defeated Jeremiah Useni, who is the candidate of PDP

- Usen's application was thrown out for lacking in merit

Despite its twins loss in Sokoto and Bauchi state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded victory in Plateau state.

Channels TV reports that the Supreme Court on Monday, January 20, affirmed the election of Simon Lalong as the governor of Plateau state.

Legit.ng gathered that the court gave the judgement in Abuja, 10 months after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returned Governor Lalong as the winner of the March 9 poll held in the state.

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the election, Jeremiah Useni, had filed an appeal at the apex court to challenge the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.

His appeal was, however, struck out in a unanimous judgment of the Supreme Court delivered by Justice Adamu Galinje.

The court held that the appellant failed to prove the allegation of non-compliance with the provisions of the electoral act.

It held that the concurrent findings of the governorship election petition tribunal and the Court of Appeal were correct.

The apex court also said the appellant failed to show how the various names of Simon Lalong enhanced his chances at the March 9, 2019 election.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the apex court has affirmed the election of Bala Muhammed as the governor of Bauchi state.

It was reported that Muhammed, who is a candidate of PDP, was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of governorship election held in the state on March 9, 2019.

Supreme Court dismissed an appeal marked SC/1502, which the immediate past governor of the state and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mohammed Abubakar, filed to challenge the outcome of the governorship election.
