Leah Sharibu: Rescued aid worker says abducted schoolgirl is doing fine

Jennifer Ukambong Samuel, an aid worker recently rescued from Boko Haram's captivity, says Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi schoolgirl the insurgents refused to release, is doing fine.

Leah is one of the over 100 schoolgirls abducted in 2018 from the Government Girls' Science and Technical College (GGSTC) in Dapchi, Yobe state.

Her colleagues had been released but the insurgents held on to her because she allegedly refused to renounce her Christian faith.

Giving updates about her well being on Sunday, January 19, in Jos, Jennifer, who was attached to Alliance for International Medical Action (ALIMA), said though she did not see Leah, another woman held by the insurgents, identified as Alice, confirmed to her that she was doing fine, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathered that Alice has also been in the Boko Haram's den for about two years due to breakdown in negotiations.

Recall that Jennifer was abducted alongside eight others in the northeast in December 2019 along Borno-Monguno road en route Jos.

She urged Nigerians to pray for those still in captivity to regain their freedom as soon as possible.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that five aid workers abducted by Boko Haram insurgents were released.

The aid workers were abducted in December 2019 when suspected terrorists ambushed their vehicle between Monguno and Damaturu.

The State Security Service (SSS) reportedly facilitated the release of the abducted aid workers.

In a related development, the European Parliament, the legislative arm of the European Union (EU), has said that no progress has been made in the war against Boko Haram.

This disclosure was made in the EU resolution on Thursday, January 16, even as it notes that there have been attacks carried out by the insurgents in recent weeks.
