Liverpool vs Man United: Salah's 93rd-minute strike inspires Reds to 2-0 win

Liverpool maintained their unbeaten status in the Premier League following their 2-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday, January 19.

The Reds also keep a 16-point gap over defending champions Manchester City after the victory against the Old Trafford side.

Dutchman Virgil van Dijk opened scoring for the Merseyside outfit after out-jumping Harry Maguire to put his side forward in the 15th minute.

His goal came from a Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner kick which found the defender in the visitor's danger zone.

Roberto Firmino's stunning goal was chopped off in the 27th minute by the Video Assistant Referee after Van Dijk was found to have fouled David De Gea in the process.

Two minutes later, the Brazilian and Mohamed Salah combined to produce something superb for the hosts but their efforts went a bit off target.

Liverpool once again found the back of the net through Georginio Wijnaldum but VAR disallowed the goal - confirming the linesman's decision to flag Firmino offside.

De Gea made an excellent save after stopping Sadio Mane from recording his name on the scores sheet after connecting with a good pass from Firmino moments before the end of the first half.

Both sides returned to the pitch for the second half and Mo Salah tried playing a fast one on their visitors but the final ball failed to find the back of the net.

Few minutes into the second half, United tried gaining momentum but they failed in all their attempts to put the ball behind the net - with Anthony Martial baring most of the faults for this.

Salah finally got his name on the scores sheet after making a solo run before netting a 93rd-minute goal from an Alisson's service.

The Reds have now won 21 of their last 22 matches this campaign as the season gradually edges to its end.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Super Falcons midfielder Rita Chikwelu made a scoring debut for her new Spanish Women's Spanish League side Madrid Femenino in their 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao.

The 31-year-old midfielder hit the ground running barely two weeks after joining the Municipal Nuevo Matapinonera Stadium outfit after scoring in the eighth minute of the encounter.

Chikwelu's goal came in just three minutes after latest signing Antonia opened scoring for the hosts the lead in the fifth minute.
