Amotekun: We’re considering similar outfit - Middle Belt

The people of Benue state and Middle Belt region, in general, has commended the establishment of Operation Amotekun in the south west region.
The Middle Belters said there are not opposed to the creation of codenamed security outfit in the region.
Vanguard reports that a highly-placed source within the region who spoke on anonymity the Middle Belt has been considering having similar outfit even before the Federal Government pronouncement against the Operation Amotekun un the south west.
The source also said that for such operation can only come to fruition only when all governors in a particular region agree to it.

He further added that the governments in Middle Belt area are prepared to emulate the initiative.
“You know that our zone has in the recent past suffered repeated attacks from armed herdsmen that left many dead, so having a similar outfit here will to a large extent complement the efforts of the conventional security organizations," the source said.
He also said that irrespective of what the FG thinks about such establishment, states in the Middle Belt will not relent in efforts to ensure that the security challenges in the zone are tackled.
“Rather than discourage the people and governments of various states from taking steps to support the fight against insecurity, I would advise the Federal Government to support the initiative. After all, the essence is to tackle insuring in the country," the source added.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the socio-cultural group in the south west has condemned the warning by Miyetti Allah association over the recently launched Operation Amotekun.

The Afenifere led by Yinka Odumakin described the remark by the cattle breeders as an insolence.
Odumakin said the south west region of the country cared less about the presidential contest in 2023 claimed by the Miyetti Allah group.
