Supreme Court ruling on Ihedioha is questionable - Ozekhome
- The verdict of the Supreme Court in the governorship election in Imo state has been rejected by some persons
- One of those who have kicked against it is Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)
- Ozekhome said that the ruling of the apex court is questionable and makes INEC appear incompetent and unfair in its conduct of elections
The credibility of the Supreme Court has been brought to question by Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Ozekhome said that after the verdict of the Supreme Court in any case, what should follow is a thorough analysis by legal experts to ascertain if the apex judicial body met the condition of justice based on available evidence, The Cable reports.
He was referring to the ruling of the Supreme Court which upturned the election of Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo state on Tuesday, January 14.
The SAN wondered how a gubernatorial candidate of the state (Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress) who came fourth in the election was declared the rightful winner of the poll.
Moreover, Ozekhome blamed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for allegedly failing to get its acts right and maintaining its position as to who the rightful winner is following recorded results.
He said that the decision of the Supreme Court indicates that INEC is no more independent, fair as well as competent to count the votes of the electorate after elections.
