Police arrest ‘mastermind’ of Abuja foiled bank robbery

Barely five days after Abuja's foiled bank robbery, the operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) have arrested one Ernest Ewim, a 29-year-old, who is believed to be the mastermind of the robbery.
The Nation reports that the foiled bank robbery occurred at Mpape area Abuja on Saturday, December 28, 2019.
Legit.ng gathered that a statement issued on Thursday, January 2, by the public relations officer of the FCT police command, DSP Ajugunri Manzah, confirmed Ewim's arrest.

The statement read: “Following the on-going investigation in the last Saturday’s foiled robbery attempt at a bank in Mpape, operatives of the FCT police command Special Anti-Robbery Squad have arrested one Ernest Ewim ‘m’ 29 years a member of the notorious armed robbery gang who has been at large."
According to the statement, the suspect who played a major role in the foiled robbery attempt was arrested by the team of police detectives at his hideout in Katampe1 on Wednesday, January 1, at about 4 pm.
“With this arrest, the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the foiled robbery attempt are now five (5) :- Ernest Ewim ‘m’ 29years Larry Ehizo ‘m’ 30 years, Princewill Obinna ‘m’ 24years, Timothy Joe ‘m’ 21years, and Elijah David ‘m’ 19 years
“The command reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensure the protection of lives and property and provide FCT residents with quality service delivery. The suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigation," the statement added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that four members of an armed robbery gang that stormed a bank in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja were arrested while one of them was also confirmed killed.
It was reported that the police confirmed that normalcy was later restored in the area just hours after the five-man gang stormed the area.
