Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday, December 24 said Russia is the only country in the world that can deploy hypersonic weapons, boasting that “other countries were trying to catch up with us.”

Putin made the remarks at a Russian Defense Ministry board meeting, adding that “not a single country possesses hypersonic weapons, let alone continental-range hypersonic weapons.”

Like Russia, both the US and China are also working on hypersonic projects.

The Russian leader has already publicly showcased a number of advanced weapons that he says are capable of defeating US and NATO defenses, including a missile that can deliver a warhead at hypersonic speed.

Meanwhile, the Russian government has successfully tested a country-wide alternative to the global internet.

According to the Russian ministry of communications, ordinary users did not notice any changes.

The initiative gives the Russian government more control over what its citizens can access.
