Gender-based violence: Governor Ishaku’s wife leads protest

Anna Ishaku, wife of Taraba state governor, has spearheaded a protest against gender-based violence in the state.

The governor's wife who led scores of women in the protest is seeking laws that will protect victims of abuse and hold offenders accountable.

The women who dressed in orange took to the streets of Jalingo, the state capital on Thursday, December 12, Channels TV.

The protesters also presented their petitions to the leaders of each arm of the state government.

The protest is part of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.

In the petition, they demanded an end to the recurring phenomenon of violence against the girl child and other gender-based violence.

They also want perpetrators to be named and shamed.

Going further, they asked the Assembly to domesticate the Administration of Criminal Justice Law in Taraba.

They also urged the Assembly to ensure the speedy passage of the bill, in order to protect women and girls against abuse.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Peter Abel Diah, former speaker of the Taraba state House of Assembly, gave the reason for his sudden resignation.

According to him, he took the decision in the interest of the state.

Diah disclosed this in a statement signed by his chief of staff, Evang. Philip Munlip.

He also congratulated his successor, Joseph Albasu Alkinjoh and all the newly elected principal officers of the Assembly.

Going further, he thanked Governor Darius Ishaku for the good working relationship they had during his time as speaker.
