Fake certificates: 2 corps members jailed 3 years with option of N10,000 fine

- The National Youth Service Corps said two corps members with fake certificates have been convicted

- NYSC DG, Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, said the fake graduates were sentenced to three years in jail but given the option of paying N10,000 fine

- Ibrahim called for the establishment of a special committee to stem the tide of the use of fake certificates for NYSC

Two corps members have been convicted for parading fake certificates, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has disclosed.

The fake corps members were arrested at the Taraba state orientation camp, The Nation reports.

The director-general of the NYSC, Brig-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, said the fake graduates were sentenced to three years in jail for presenting fake certificates.

Legit.ng gathered that the convicts were, however, given an option of fine which is pegged at N10,000.

According to the NYSC boss, there is an ongoing clampdown on all fake graduates presenting doctored credentials at the scheme’s orientation camps across the country.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that NYSC decried the presentation of fake academic credentials and attempt to smuggle names of unqualified persons into the mobilisation list.

The NYSC DG made this known during the 2019 Batch ‘C’ Pre-mobilisation Workshop in Minna on Wednesday, October 8.

According to Ibrahim, the NYSC acts prescribed a four years jail term for the presentation of fake credentials for mobilisation.
