Jubilation as new Lagos CP declares state of emergency on traffic, deployed 1000 personnel

- Lagos CP, Hakeem Odumosu, has declared a state of emergency on traffic in the state

- The CP also delpoyed 1000 additional personnel for the control of traffic

- People of the state have been groaning over persistent traffic in the metropolis

Two days after he assumed office as Lagos state commissioner of police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has declared a state of emergency on traffic management and control in the state.

Legit.ng reports that the new commissioner of police ordered the immediate deployment of additional one thousand police officers to traffic duties.

He took the decision during an emergency meeting he summoned in the command headquarters on Wednesday, November 20, to review the current traffic situation in the state.

According to the statement issued by the state police public relations officer, DSP Bala Elkana, on Thursday, November 21, indicated that the deputy commissioners of police department of finance and administration, department of operations, criminal investigation department and rapid response squad.

The area commanders, area operations officers, state traffic officer, divisional traffic officers across the state and the chairman Lagos state Taskforce on environmental and special offences, among others, were also in attendance according to the statement.

Odumosu also reviewed the time for duty report for traffic officers to take care of the peak hours, adding that traffic duties officers would be run shifts between 10am and 10pm while the second shift would be 10pm to 10am, providing 24hours coverage.

He added that they would all operate in their usual reflective jackets, saying that measure would help in ensuring free flow of traffic and will also curb the menace of traffic robbery.

He, however, called on Lagosians to accord the police officers on traffic duties maximum cooperation in the discharge of their statutory duties as he enjoined all road users to obey traffic laws.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Thursday, November 14, ordered the immediate posting/redeployment of seven commissioners of police.
