Kogi, Bayelsa elections: Nigeria sliding back to era of dictatorship - PDP

- The PDP has referred to the conduct of the Bayelsa and Kogi elections as the destruction of democracy in Nigeria

- The opposition party said that Nigerians and the world were shocked as they watched how the elections were massively rigged

- The PDP, however, said that it is still strong and united in its mission to uphold the dreams of Nigerians for their nation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the outcome of the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa states.

In its response, the PDP said on its official Facebook page that the results of the polls show that the hope of Nigerians in democracy has dashed and trampled upon by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government.

The opposition party accused the police of aiding hoodlums to invade polling centers and harass voters during the election.

In a statement released by it's spokesperson, Kola Ologbodiyan, the PDP said: "Citizens agonized as APC-controlled security forces aided armed hoodlums to invade polling centers, shoot and kill innocent citizens, cart away ballot boxes, stuffed them with already thumbprint ed ballot papers in favour of APC..."

The party also said that Nigerians have lost hope in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headed by Professor Yakubu Mahmood.

However, Ologbodiyan said that the PDP remains strong and united in upholding and trying to fulfil the dreams of Nigerians.

The statement partly said: "Our party will therefore continue to fully exert itself in upholding the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians despite the manipulations of the APC."

The PDP called on all citizens of thew country to remain resilient and focused as it will soon inform Nigerians on what next to do on how to get back stolen mandates.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that President Muhammadu Buhari had congratulated the APC candidate David Lyon for emerging victorious in the Bayelsa state governorship election.

The Nigerian president in a message on Monday, November 18, through his media aide, Femi Adesina, described Lyon’s victory as impressive.
