- The appeal court has upheld the election of Governor Nasir El-Rufai

- PDP candidate is seeking cancellation of some results from the election

- According to the PDP and its candidate, the election that produced El-Rufai was marred with massive fraud and irregularities

The election of Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna state has been upheld by the Kaduna division of the appeal court on Thursday, November 7.

El-Rufai tweeted his delight at the news.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that the governorship election petition tribunal upheld the election of El-Rufai as the elected governor of Kaduna state.

The tribunal said Isah Ashiru, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 9, 2019 gubernatorial election, was unable to prove his allegations of rigging which he labelled against El-Rufai.

But Ashiru and the PDP challenged the decision of the lower tribunal. According to Ashiru, the election was flawed with massive fraud and irregularities, The Nation reports.

Specifically, the PDP and its candidate are asking the tribunal to cancel a total of 515,951 votes from El Rufai's result. According to them, the votes were unlawfully added to the APC's votes.

They also asked for the cancellation of 124,210 unlawful votes added to the PDP.

However, in an unanimous decision, the appeal court judges on Thursday, November 7, agreed with decision of the tribunal. They consequently declared El-Rufai as the truly elected governor of Kaduna state.
