- Edo deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, accuses Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) of lying
- Shaibu claims that Oshiomhole was the one that brought thugs to attack Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state
- The deputy governor denies sponsoring the attackers of Obaseki
Philip Shaibu, deputy governor of Edo, has fired back at the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, after the latter accused him of bringing the thugs that attacked Godwin Obaseki.
Obaseki, governor of the state, was in a convoy with Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos when he was attacked in the home of Oshiomhole in Iyamho.
Speaking about the incident, Shaibu said it was Oshiomhole who brought the thugs that attacked Obaseki and Akiolu.
The Nation reports that the deputy governor denied that he brought thugs, but insisted that he is a man of peace.
A statement by Musa Ebomhiana, his spokesperson, said the Shaibu could not have encouraged thugs to attack his principal.
“The governor, his deputy, Oba of Lagos and their entourage were at the gate of the national chairman of our great party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to pay him the usual homage since they were in his domain.
“Surprisingly, the large crowd that gathered at the gate brutally attacked the convoy, destroying three cars in the process," Shaibu said.
According to him, the governor's convoy had to quickly turn and came back to the varsity campus.
"So, how did the DG cause it, could he have arranged his own attack? In fact, they were there on the invitation of the Comrade himself," he said.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Oshiomhole had accused the deputy governor of Edo, Philip Shaibu, of importing thugs following an attack on Governor Godwin Obaseki.
