Appeal Court declares Chidoka winner of Idemili North and Idemili South federal constituency
The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu has declared Honourable Obinna Chidoka as the duly elected House of Representatives member representing Idemili North and Idemili South federal constituency.
The court sacked All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)'s candidate Ibezi Ifeanyichukwu, who was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the February 23 National Assembly election in the state.
In its ruling, the court ordered INEC to issue a Certificate of Return to Chidoka and withdraw that of the APGA candidate.
Obinna, 45, is the younger brother of Chief Osita Chidoka, the former minister of aviation.
A sociology graduate of University of Lagos, he was the chairman of the House committee on environment and habitat in the 8th Assembly.
He was the youngest member of the House of Representatives in the 6th Assembly where he had his first stint from June 2007-July 2008.
His victory has sparked celebrations on social media, especially among his followers and supporters.
In a related development, the Supreme Court on Friday, October 25, upheld the election of Rivers state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
The apex court dismissed a petition filed by the African Action Congress (AAC) and its candidate in the last governorship election, Awara Biokpomabo Festus, describing it as an exercise in futility.
