Ministers to submit travel plans to SGF for approval

- The government of President Muhammadu Buhari has asked all ministers to submit all their travel plans to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation

- In the same development also, all ministerial delegation has also been reduced to four and non-ministerial travel group three

- According to the government, the new move is to help check the way government funds are used to foot travel expenses for government officials

President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval to a new rule that mandates all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to make a submission of their annual travel schedules to the office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The new development, according to the office of the SGF is a measure to fight against inefficiencies and the way government resources are used, Daily Trust reports.

According to the statement signed by Willie Bassey, the director of information of the office, the new order is also a means to curb the unnecessary travels that are funded by public money.

In the new circular also, it said that whenever a minister is leading an official delegation, the size of such must go beyond four people which must include relevant officials.

However, in the case that the delegation is a non-ministerial one, the number of people for such must not be more than three.

“Also, when a minister is at the head of an official delegation, the size of such delegation shall not exceed four, including the relevant director, schedule officer and one aide of the minister. Every other delegation below ministerial level shall be restricted to a maximum of three,” it said.

The new policy added that ministers are only to fly business class for their air category and for non-ministerial travels, economy class.

Recall that Legit.ng earlier reported that for the first time since the 2019 general elections were won and lost, the president arrived the National Assembly to present the 2020 budget.

It was gathered that as part of the preparations to receive the president, there had been tight security around the National Assembly where the presentation would be made.

It should be noted that the Senate had moved and adopted a motion for a joint session between the upper legislative chamber and the House of Representatives as it is customary.
