Breakdown of 2020 budget presented by President Buhari to federal lawmakers

A breakdown of the N10.7 trillion 2020 budget presented by President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, October 8, has shown Defence getting N100 billion.

The president, who started his address by complaining about cold which has affected his voice, said the budget would focus on completing projects that have been carried over from 2019.

While works and housing will take N262 billion, power has a share of N127 billion. Also top on the breakdown is transportation which has N123 billion.

The breakdown by Channels Television also shows the Universal Basic Education (UBE) taking N112 billion. The zonal intervention projects gets a share of N100 billion while agriculture and rural development got N83 billion.

The breakdown further shows water resources getting N82 billion as the Niger Delta got N81 billion. Meanwhile, education received N48 billion.

The president explained some challenges that have been considered in the performance of the 2019 budget and the preparation of the 2020 appropriation bill.

He blamed delay in the passage of the 2019 budget and under-performance of the revenue generating agencies as responsible for the poor performance of the 2019 budget resulting in more focus on recurrent expenditure.
