President Muhammadu Buhari says the peaceful conduct of the 2019 general elections has shown that Nigeria’s democracy is maturing.
The president made this known on Monday, October 7, while declaring open the 25th Nigeria Economic Summit (NES) with the theme: ‘‘Nigeria 2050: Shifting Gears’’ , Vanguard reports.
Buhari noted that apart from few cases of unrest, majority of Nigerians exercised their voting rights in the 2019 elections without any difficulty.
Speaking further, the president also noted that a situation where aggrieved candidates in the last election took their concerns to court as opposed to causing mayhem shows the country’s democracy is developing.
Commenting on his administration, President Buhari said the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government has since 2015 focused poverty reduction and social inclusion.
He added that APC’s policies are targeted towards making Nigerians prosper by putting in place improved security, fighting corruption, creating jobs and social inclusion programmes.
