The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has congratulated the governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, for his victory at the state governorship election petition tribunal.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, October 2, by PDP spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party described the tribunal judgement as a victory for democracy, Nigerian Tribune reports.

Tambuwal’s victory at the election, the party claimed, was a clear endorsement of his leadership style and commitment towards the development of the state and its people.

“Indeed, Governor Tambuwal’s achievements in developing the state and empowering the people in all critical sectors of life stood him out in his first term. His re-election, therefore, marks the determination of the people to consolidate on good governance in their state," the statement reads partly.

The PDP, however, rejected the verdicts of the governorship elections tribunal in Kano and Plateau states just as it expressed confidence that it would get desired outcomes at the appellate court.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Sokoto state election tribunal affirmed Tambuwal's victory as governor of the state.

The tribunal on Wednesday, October 2, threw away the petition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Ahmed Aliyu, as it lacked merit and for its inability to establish non-compliance.

The court also put paid to the allegations of non-compliance with the electoral act in the conduct of the election against the petitioners for how it failed to prove its claim.
