The DSS has yet to give any reason for his arrest.
Onumah, an active member of several Civil Society Organisations, was arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja.
Premium Times reported that he returned to Nigeria from Spain where he recently bagged a doctorate in communication studies.
According to the report, he arrived via a Lufthansa airline and was waiting for his luggage at about 5:00 p.m. when DSS officials accosted him.
It is believed that he was taken to the DSS headquarters in Abuja.
Onumah is the author of a book titled: We Are All Biafrans. He is also a columnist and an editorial board member of Premium Times.
He is also an advocate for the restructuring of the Nigerian federation.
Meanwhile, the DSS has said that it has not received any valid court order for the bail of Omoyele Sowore.
Dr. Peter Afunanya who is the spokesperson of the DSS said this on Thursday, September 26.
There has been concern about why Sowore was still in detention in spite of report that he has met his bail condition.
Afunanya described the DSS as a law-abiding agency that has regard for the law of the country.
