Boko Haram: Army mum as insurgents reportedly kill several soldiers in Borno
- The Nigerian Army is yet to speak on the latest reports that at least 14 soldiers allegedly killed by Boko Haram
- Some of the soldiers were reportedly killed on the highway between Gubio and Magumeri in Borno
- The Nigerian government has insisted that the Boko Haram insurgents had been degraded
There have been no official comments, confirmation or denial two days after reports made the round that some soldiers had been killed by the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno state.
A report by Reuters said that the Islamic State (IS) through its Amaq news agency, claimed its men killed 14 Nigerian soldiers in Borno, northeastern Nigeria on Wednesday, September 25.
The report was said to have been confirmed by military sources but the spokesperson of the Army did not immediately speak when contacted for comments.
Legit.ng earlier reported that many soldiers were said to have been killed while some went missing after the insurgents attacked a convoy of troops in Borno state.
The report cited local vigilante sources as confirming that the attack happened in Gubio local government area of Borno state, specifically on the highway between Gubio and Magumeri around 4.15 pm.
“The attackers laid ambush with anti-aircraft guns and other weapons. More than a dozen soldiers were killed in the attack while several others sustained injuries,” a source was quoted as saying.
It was also reported that Army on Wednesday, September 25, said it had launched exercises Ayem Akpatuma II, Egwu Eke IV and Crocodile Smile IV.
The Nigerian Army spokesperson, Colonel Musa Sagir, said the Army is set to commence simultaneous routine training exercises in the various geo-political zones of Nigeria.

Musa said operation Ayem Akpatuma II will take place in the north-central and some states of the northwest - Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi and Taraba states.
