Beyoncé is in a trademark war with wedding planner over Blue Ivy name
- Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is fighting a legal battle against a wedding planner over the name, Blue Ivy
- Beyoncé attempted to trademark her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter's name years ago but had lost the application
- The case is expected to head off to court soon
Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has come out guns blazing in a trademark war with a wedding planner over the name Blue Ivy, calling her daughter a cultural icon.
Queen Bey has been fighting wedding planner, Wendy Morales, over the Blue Ivy trademark. Morales has an events planning company with the same name and claims that people will get confused between her company and Beyoncé’s daughter.
TshisaLive reported that in the court documents seen by The Blast, Beyoncé claimed that she should be allowed to trademark her daughter’s name because she is a “cultural icon”.
The court documents also claim that the trademark is for Blue Ivy Carter and not just Blue Ivy, which should not create confusion.
Queen Bey also threw shade at Morales, saying she runs a “small business, with just three regional offices and a handful of employees”. Beyoncé also claimed that the company had a weak online presence and did not have a lot of followers on social media.
The legal battle is set to head to court soon.
It was reported that Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, first applied for the trademark seven years ago, but had lost the application and have been trying ever since.
It was also noted that designer, Joseph Mbeh, submitted an application around the same time for the name “Blue Ivy Carter NYC” and a second applicant tried to register “Blue Ivy Carter Glory IV” for a line of fragrances. However, both applications were denied.
Interesting.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Beyonce recently made a lapel pin out of her favourite throwback picture of her mother, Tina Lawson.
The obviously proud Tina Lawson shared photos on social media and she accompanied the post with a caption.
