Kidnapping: Gunmen kill Police officer, other travellers on Lokoja-Abuja road
- Passengers travelling on the Lokoja-Abuja highway have been killed by some suspected kidnappers
- The victims died after the gunmen opened fire on their vehicle, deflating their tyres which led to the somersault of the Sharan car they were travelling in
- Also, an assistant superintendent of Police was killed during the attack
Some Abuja bound travellers on the Kotonkarfe area of Kogi state have been killed by some suspected kidnappers on the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway.
Daily Trust reports that the armed kidnap suspects had laid siege on the highway opening fire on occupants of a Sharon vehicle coming from Port Harcourt to Abuja.
It was gathered that all passengers on board the vehicle were killed during the attack by the gunmen which took place o Wednesday, September 25, at about 5.58 pm.
Witnesses said the vehicle's driver on sighting the suspects on military uniform tried to escape but were shot at with their tyre deflated.
The witness said this led to the car somersaulting and killing all passengers after the driver engaged the vehicle's reverse gear.
“It is at this point we noticed that they may be kidnappers and our driver then engaged the reverse gear as they started firing at our car."
“The driver was hit on the shoulder with bullets coming out at the other side and hit the man at the back seat on the head,” the witness said.
He further said they managed to drive to Gegu-Beki police station with the injuries where the men on duty assisted in conveying them to the General Hospital at Koton-Karfe.
The victims were later moved to FMC Lokoja for further treatment, while the driver who ws hit by a bullet was referred to National Hospital, Abuja and the other occupants at the back seat who taken to the University College Hospital, Ibadan for attention.
Also confirming the incident, the Kogi state commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari, said he got a report that a car stopped by kidnappers dressed in camouflage was shot at killing the passengers including an Assistant Superintendent of Police from Edo state.
He also said that the Police has begun an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that gunmen on Police uniform on Wednesday, September 25, kidnapped the wife of the managing director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Francisca Okhira.

Okhira was said to have been kidnapped in Benin, Edo state at the entrance of her house while arriving from the airport.
