Boko Haram: 8 LGAs in Borno are under occupation - Lawmaker claims

- Reps member Ahmadu Jaha claimed that eight out of the 10 local government areas in the northern part of Borno state are under the occupation of Boko Haram

- Jaha further claimed that the war against Boko Haram has not been transparent

- The lawmaker made this known while contributing to a motion on the need for special funding for security agencies

Ahmadu Jaha, a member of the House of Representatives, has claimed that Boko Haram terrorists are occupying eight out of the 10 local government areas in the northern part of Borno state.

The Cable reports that Jaha made the claim during the plenary session on Tuesday, September 24.

The lawmaker who represents Damboa/Gwoza/Chibok federal constituency is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adding his voice to a motion on the need for special funding for security agencies, Jaha said the war against Boko Haram has not been transparent, adding that parts of Borno have suffered intense attacks by the insurgents.

He said: “(A) number of geographical locations in Borno state and other insurgency-related areas are under the occupation of Boko Haram.

“Let us take for instance, in a local government that has 13 electoral wards like my own Gwoza, only three or four are not under the occupation of Boko Haram.

“In Chibok, I have 10 electoral wards, only two are not under the occupation of Boko Haram. In Damboa, I have 10 electoral wards, only one is not under the occupation of Boko Haram. This is as far as Chibok/Damboa/Gwoza federal constituency is concerned.

“The same thing… the chief whip to the house can bear me witness, out of the 10 local governments in northern Borno, only two local governments and it is only their headquarters, are still not under the occupation of Boko Haram.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Femi Gbajabiamila, the speaker of the House of Representatives, said that the house would reconsider the controversial NGOs bill from the 8th Assembly.

He said it became imperative to revisit the bill due to the activities of NGOs in the northeastern part of Nigeria.

Speaking during a debate on a motion brought under matters of urgent public importance on funding for security agents, on Tuesday, September 24, the speaker also said NGOs would be invited for a discussion before the house takes action.
