President Buhari departs Abuja to attend UNGA74 in New York

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, September 22, departed Abuja for New York, USA ahead of the 74th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meeting.
Legit.ng reports that the president the theme for UNGA74 is, Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion.
The president would be the 5th on the list of presidents to address the assembly.
Geoffery Onyeama, the minister for foreign affairs said that President Buhari would use the opportunity to articulate the priorities of the Nigerian government to the world.
The minister also noted that Nigeria is hoping to partake in engagements that would help the country have seats in several organisations such as the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the World Heritage Committee (WHC), and the International Civil Aviation Council (ICAC).
According to him, Nigeria would also be pushing for the UN’s support in the war on terror, the humane treatment of migrants, as well as Nigeria’s quest to recharge lake Chad.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Buhari would leave Abuja on Sunday, September 22, for New York, to participate in the UNGA74 which opened on September 17.
It was reported that the special adviser on media and publicity to the president, Femi Adesina, had said in a statement on Thursday, September 19, that President Buhari’s participation in this year’s gathering of world leaders is significant as it coincides with the country’s presidency of UNGA.
