21-year-old British-Nigerian rapper Dave wins UK's Mercury Prize (photos)

- British-Nigerian rapper Dave has won the United Kingdom Mercury Prize award

- The rapper won the 2019 award for his intimate and revealing debut album Psychodrama

- During his acceptance speech, Dave paid tribute to the exceptional musicians he was nominated alongside

A young British-Nigerian rapper identified simply as Dave has won 2019 the United Kingdom Mercury Prize award. The 21-year-old man was said to have won the award for his intimate and revealing debut album Psychodrama.

According to BBC, the young man hugged his mother before taking the stage to collect the award.

While giving his acceptance speech, Dave expressed that he was lost for words. He later paid tribute to the exceptional musicians he was nominated alongside.

Even though Dave received the award due to his debut album Psychodrama, the rapper had been on the road to music for a long time. He made his debut album in May 2015 with a freestyle released on YouTube.

Canadian rapper Drake, who has featured on Dave's singles, revealed that he discovered the rapper while browsing YouTube absentmindedly.

Drake was featured on Dave's remix for Wanna Know. And, Dave later featured on Drake's More Life mixtape. He also collaborated on the Netflix drama Top Boy.
