JUST IN: Governor Ikpeazu wins at Abia governorship tribunal
The victory of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been upheld by the Abia state governorship election tribunal.
The tribunal made the decision on Friday, September 20 at its sitting in Umuahia, the state capital.
The tribunal also dismissed the petition filed by Alex Otti of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ikpeazu, a former commissioner in the state, contested under the Peoples Democratic Party.
Chairman of the panel, Justice Lekan Ogumonye while delivering a unanimous judgement held that the petitioner failed to prove his allegations of over-voting and non-compliance with the electoral act in the conduct of the election.
Similarly, the election petition tribunal sitting in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state on Thursday, September 19, dismissed the case filed by Mr. Nsima Ekere against the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Ekere, a former managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, was the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate at the 2019 polls.
The tribunal declared Emmanuel as the duly elected governor of Akwa Ibom state.
