VP Osinbajo’s office has been rendered useless, irrelevant - Afenifere
- Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group, said VP Yemi Osinbajo’s office has been rendered impotent, useless and irrelevant
- This follows a presidential directive asking Osinbajo to seek approval from President Buhari before making decisions for agencies under his supervision
- The Yoruba group, however, said it is still monitoring the development to know whether the move was a political plot to clip Osinbajo's wing before 2023
Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group, has said the Office of the Vice President has been rendered useless, impotent and irrelevant.
The Yoruba group stated this following a report that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to seek approval from him before making decisions for agencies under his supervision.
Reacting to the development on Wednesday, September, the group issued a statement saying "what has happened is that the VP’s office has been rendered impotent, useless and irrelevant”.
Afenifere's spokesman, Yinka Odumakin, said the group is watching as the story develops, noting that it cannot jump into conclusion.

“We are watching as events unfold. We are studying the situation, but we must also not muddle up issues.
“For now, we will not jump into any premature conclusion that this is about 2023 alone.
“We will need more information to know whether it is political or whether there was an abuse of office or process.
“But the barrage of the last 48 hours shows that there is something wrong. We will wait to have all the facts because we don’t want to say a Yoruba man is being attacked.
“They may have had a justifiable reason to do so; but we are taking note of every development and at the appropriate time, we will make our position known.
“But clearly, what has happened is that the VP’s office has been rendered impotent, useless and irrelevant,” Odumakin said.

Meanwhile, Osinbajo has denied the report alleging that all the agencies he supervises do not follow due process in the award of contracts and other critical matters.
Laolu Akande, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity in the office of the vice president, in a statement sent to Legit.ng described the report as false and unreasonable.
“Our attention has been drawn to a sensational report by The Cable published on September 17, 2019, which claims that His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, has directed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, to seek approvals for agencies under him," the statement read.
He said the report was misleading and aims “only to plant seeds of discord in the presidency while attempting to create unnecessary national hysteria.”
