Mama Taraba finally joins Atiku in PDP, gives reasons

- Aisha Jummai Alhassan has defected to the PDP from the UDP

- The former minister of women affairs contested for the Taraba state governorship under her former party

- Alhassan had always expressed support for Atiku Abubakar whom she described as her godfather

Aisha Jummai Alhassan, a former minister of women affairs has announced her defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Daily Trust reports that Alhassan popularly known as Mama Taraba made this revelation during a stakeholders meeting of her former party, United Democratic party (UDP),

Mama Taraba was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress while she served as minister under the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

At the stakeholder’s meeting, it was disclosed that an opinion poll of the UDP conducted after the 2019 general elections indicated that members of the party from 168 wards in 16 local government areas of the state agreed to decamp to PDP.

She said she had no choice but to accept the decision of the party and join the PDP.

While serving as minister, Alhassan caused a stir when she was caught on video saying she would support Atiku Abubakar presidential candidacy.

Meanwhile, Buhari said it would have been traumatic if he had lost the tribunal.

The tribunal had dismissed the petition filed by Atiku of the PDP on Wednesday, September 11.
