Bayelsa APC primaries: Senator Lokpobiri rejects results of polls

Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, a former minister of state for agriculture, has rejected the results of the All Progressives Congress (APC)'s primary election in Bayelsa.

Arguing that he and his supporters did not take part in any primaries that led to the emergence of his rival, David Lyon, as party's flag bearer, Lokpobiri said that the results were impossible since he has the support of most APC members in the state.

The aggrieved senator alleged that the said primaries started and ended in a hotel instead of the party's secretariat in Yenagoa, where members waited in vain for the electoral committee in charge of the poll, The Nation reports.

Lokpobiri also claimed that the results were announced by someone else other than the returning officer and governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni.
