Senator Melaye reacts to sack by election tribunal

- Senator Dino Melaye has reacted to his sack from office by the election tribunal

- Melaye said that his mandate can never be taken from him and that there will be a fresh senatorial poll in Kogi West district

- The senator also said that there is no cause for alarm and that he will become governor in the state

The senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye, has reacted to his sack from office as ordered by election tribunal on Friday, August 23.

On his official Twitter page, Melaye said that there is no cause for alarm over the judgement, adding that his mandate cannot be taken from him.

He went on to say that even if the ruling was in his favour, it would have been appealed. Melaye insisted that there will be fresh senatorial election in the district and that he will be Kogi's next governor.

Even more, Melaye, referring to himself, said that he who laughs last laughs long.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Melaye had been sacked by the National Assembly election petition tribunal.

Melaye, who was a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner of the February 23, election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Dissatisfied by the declaration, Senator Smart Adeyemi, who was the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), approached the tribunal to challenge Melaye's victory, citing, irregularities, over-voting and non compliance with the electoral acts.
