The Kitchen Movie 2019 - release date, cast, true story and review
The Kitchen Movie is a 2019 film starring three of the most famous female movie stars in Hollywood right now. Thanks to screenwriter and producer Andrea Berloff, the audience gets to see women navigate the mafia world in a very non-traditional way.
Traditionally, the mafia has always been a very highly male-dominated environment. Women are known to serve more subservient and sometimes degrading roles within these ranks. However, now and again, women can crop up from within the ranks and be able to take over the whole organized crime group. The Kitchen Movie 2019, seeks to show how women can take over in the world of organized crime.

The Kitchen cast
Are you wondering who the stars who make up The Kitchen 2019 cast are? Well, the casting crew did a fabulous job when it came to casting characters for this film. The cast has some very famous names and faces.
Melissa McCarthy
The actress plays the role of, Kathy Brennan. Kathy is a devoted mother of two, who even though initially hesitant to enter the criminal world, soon realizes how skilled she is for this dangerous world.
This is not Melissa's first rodeo in a crime movie. She has had roles in crime-related films such as The Boss, Spy, The Heat and Identity Thief. However, unlike these previous movies where she was always the funny character, her role in The Kitchen brings out a more serious side to her.
Tiffany Haddish
If you are a fan of comedy shows and films, then you are familiar with Tiffany Haddish. Since 2017, the spotlight has been on her since the movie Girls Trip put her on the map.
Tiffany plays the Character, Ruby O'Carroll. Ruby has never been accepted into her husband's Irish family and community. However, once he goes to jail, she picks herself up and makes a name for herself. She transforms from a scared ostracized woman to a badas* character that is not scared of anyone. Just like her co-star Melissa, she took a step away from her comedic side to do a more serious role.
Elisabeth Moss
Moss plays the character, Claire Walsh. Claire starts as a docile and very meek woman and wife. Her husband is quite the opposite as he is cruel and often violently abuses her. Once he is arrested, Claire does not seek love in the arms of another man. She, instead, finds herself and her thrill of violence in the world of organized crime.
Fans of the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale will know Elisabeth from her role as 'Offred'. Just like in The Kitchen Movie, Moss's character starts as a docile and subservient woman but grows into a stronger bolder character as the story unfolds.
While the movie has an array of different male characters that help bring it to life, they do not take away the spotlight from the three women. The men act like supporting characters in this story.

Is The Kitchen Movie based on a true story?
Upon hearing about the plot of The Kitchen, most of us would be left wondering if this movie is based on a true story. After all, who would not want such a captivating story to exist in real-life?
Sadly the answer is no. The Kitchen is not based on true events. It is, however, an adaption of the DC comic book series of the same name. The series is written by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle. The comic book series was part of the DC Vertigo Comic Imprint. On the DC website, the story is described as,
"The Irish gangs of Hell’s Kitchen rule the neighbourhood, bringing terror to the streets and doing the dirty work for the Italian Mafia. Jimmy Brennan and his crew were the hardest bastards in the Kitchen, but after they’re all put in prison, their wives – Kath, Raven and Angie – decide to keep running their rackets. And once they get a taste of the fast life and easy money, it won’t be easy to stop."
While the film adaptation changed the names of the main character women from Kath, Raven and Angie to Kathy, Ruby and Claire, it remained true to the storyline in the comics.

"McCarthy, Haddish, Moss - Oh, what a movie The Kitchen could have been. But, oh what an unholy disaster it is. An early contender for worst of the year."
- On Metacritic, the movie also received terrible reviews as it only has a score of 36%.
Even the president of Domestic production on Warner Bros. admits that this movie did not do as well as they had hoped.
This film did not do as well as everyone thought it would. The trailer itself was great, and the talent of the cast is undeniable. However, the story did not resonate with the audience, and thus, the movie flopped.
