Senate standing committees: Okorocha chairs culture and tourism committee

The immediate past governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha has been named the chairman, committee on culture and tourism of the ninth Senate.
Okorocha, 56, was named the committee chairman even as a first time senator.
The President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan announced a total of 69 standing committees on Tuesday, July 30.

Headlining the leadership of committees are; Sen. Jubril Barau (APC-Kano) is the chairman, appropriation committee, Sen. Adeola Olamilekan (APC-Lagos); finance committee and Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti); judiciary committee.
The former Imo state governor invested heavily in tourism during his administration and also created a ministry of happiness.
As part of its drive to improve Imo's tourism potentials, the Okorocha's administration built iconic statues of African heroes in the state capital, Owerri.
The Senate has adjourned till Tuesday, September 24 to observe its annual recess.
Meanwhile, a group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state has condemned the alleged assault by Imo state government officials on Mrs Uloma Nwosu recently.
The group, Imo PDP Women Liberators, issued a 72 hours ultimatum to Governor Emeka Ihedioha, asking him to tender a public apology for the harassment meted on Mrs Nwosu.

Mrs Nwosu is is the daughter of Senator Okorocha and wife of the Action Alliance governorship candidate in the state, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu.
A viral video which surfaced on the internet had shown an official of the state government hitting the senator's daughter while the officials carried out a raid on a property said to be owned by the Okorocha's family.
