Just in: Boko Haram members reportedly kill 65 mourners in Borno

- Boko Haram members have reportedly killed 65 mourners in a village in Nganzai local government area of Borno state

- The mourners were said to have been killed in a reprisal attack by the terrorists against the community

- It was gathered that the attack took place while the mourners were returning from a funeral

Some members of the Boko Haram terrorists operating in the northeast on Saturday, July 27, launched an attack on mourners in a village in Nganzai local government area of Borno state, killing 65 people.

Daily Trust reports that the attack by the terrorists came a week after some communities confronted Boko Haram insurgents in the area and killed 11 of them.

It was gathered that the residents of the community also seized several rifles from the terrorists during the attack.

However, in what appears to be a reprisal from the terrorists some mourners who were returning from a funeral were killed.

The chairman of Nganzai LGA, Mohammed Bulama, while speaking during a condolence visit by Governor Babagana Zulum said the terrorists killed over 60 mourners and left 11 others injured.

“Two weeks ago, Boko Haram insurgents attacked Badu village but the attack was repelled by the villagers and members of the vigilante group,” Bulama said.

“The villagers resisted the attack, killed 11 insurgents and recovered 10 AK-47 rifles in the encounter.

“On Saturday at about 11:40 am, the insurgents came on a reprisal mission, attacking mourners at a grave yard in the area, killing over 60 persons and injuring 11 others,” the chairman said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a group had claimed that lack of food, hunger and basic amenities are leading Boko Haram members into spontaneous killing and abduction in the northeast area.

The group said the massive onslaught against the terrorists by troops of the Nigerian Army have also contributed to the erratic actions by the insurgents.
