Double celebration as man proposes to girlfriend during her graduation

For many students, one of their biggest dreams is to be part of those who will get to walk across the stage to receive their respective degree after completing their course.

Now, imagine an elated you walking across the stage to receive your degree, and before you walk off the stage, your boyfriend pops the big question.

Such was the experience for 25-year-old Agne Banuskeviciute whose boyfriend proposed to her on her graduation day in the middle of the event at the University of Essex in UK.

In a video captured and shared by the university in a now deleted tweet, Agne, looked shocked as her childhood sweetheart came up to join her on the stage not sure what he was upto.

The young graduate's emotion turned to joy when her 27-year-old partner, Edgaras Averbuchas, went down on one knee and popped the question.

The room was filled with applause as an overjoyed Agne accepted her boyfriend's proposal.

However, not everyone was happy with Edgaras' move accusing him of trying to steal his girlfriend's moment.

An overjoyed Agne hit back at critics and revealed she was over the moon about the very public proposal in front of hundreds of students, lecturers and proud parents.

Agne who had just finished studying a masters degree in English Language and Applied Linguistics at the institution said she knew something was up but could not tell what it was.

"I remember myself standing on the stage. I was a little bit nervous, but extremely happy," she said.

"Then, all of a sudden I saw Edgaras coming, but everything happened so quickly that it took me some time to understand what actually happened," she added.

The couple has been dating for nine years after meeting as teenagers in secondary school.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that a photo and video clip of an alleged Nigerian man proposing to his male lover on the day of his graduation went viral.

The video sparked reactions with some people congratulating the couple for finding love, while others kick against it.
