Just in: Bandits kill 10 in fresh Katsina attack
- Ten people have been killed in fresh bandit attack in a village in Katsina state
- The residents were attacked and killed in Kirtawa village in Safana local government area of Katsina state
- The Police said the attacks numbering about 300 invaded the village in vehicles and motorcycles
Some bandits over the weekend launched an attack on Kirtawa village in Safana local government area of Katsina state.
Daily Trust reports that 10 residents of the village were reportedly killed in the attack which left five others with various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the attack, the spokesperson for the Katsina Police command, Gambo Isah, said five vehicles and four motorcycles were set ablaze.
He also said that an unspecified number of cows were also rustled by the bandits numbering about 300 on motorcycles.
Stating that the bandits were fully armed with dangerous weapons, Isah said they invaded and attacked the village and later laid ambush on security personnel called by the locals.

Isah said: “In the process the hoodlums shot the tires of the police Armoured Personnel Vehicle and injured one army and one civil defence officer. At the time the combined ground forces were mobilized into the village, the hoodlums had already operated and escaped into the forest."
He also said the move by the bandits is a clear reprisal attack carried out by the hoodlums against the community.
"Joint security forces have been deployed to the area to arrest the situation, pursue and arrest the fleeing hoodlums,” Isah added.
The Police spokesperson further assured the residents and the people of Katsina that government and security forces were working towards ending banditry in the state.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that 15 people were earlier killed in an attack on four villages in Kankara and Danmusa local government areas of Katsina state.

It was gathered that some bandits first attacked Unuwar Nagwande at about 4:30 pm and killed four people before launching an attack in Unguwar Rabo and Gidan Daji.
