AFCON 2019: Salah, Mane, top list of best players in first round

- AFCON 2019 group stage which is done and dusted saw Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane make the list of best players in the first round

- The Liverpool strikers have both scored two goals in their respective groups at the tournament

- Several players from Cameroon, Algeria, Egypt, Madagascar and others also made the 18-man list

- No Super Eagles player was selected despite winning their first two group matches at the competition

Liverpool duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have been selected among the best players in the first round of the ongoing AFCON 2019 tournament in Egypt.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) selected 18 players who have been impressive across different national teams in the competition.

And the Champions League winners have replicated their form at AFCON during the first round as they made CAF best XI for the group stage.

The starting XI comprises Pharaoh's number one goalie El Shennawy and his shielded with the back four including compatriot Hegazy and El Mohammady.

Morocco's Ashraf Hakimi occupied the left-back position while Cameroon's Yahaya Banana completes the back-four.

The midfield trio have Algeria's Riyad Mahrez and Ismail Bennacer as well as Madagascar's sensation Carolus Andriamahitsinoro.

And Ghana's number nine, Andre Ayew joins Salah and Mane in the attacking third. Substitutes includes Cameroon's shoot-stopper Andre Onana, Algeria's Youcef Atal and Morocco's Medhi Benatia.

Others are Fulham's André-Frank Zambo Anguissa of Cameroon, Ghana's Wakaso Mubarak, DR Congo's Cedric Bakambu, Madagascar's Faneva Andriatsima and Algeria's Youcef Belaïli.

No Nigerian player made the list despite making it through to the last 16 of the tournament following wins against Burundi and Guinea in their first two matches.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Benin vs Cameroon ended in a 0-0 draw as both teams join Ghana in the AFCON 2019 round of 16.

Cameroon will play old enemy, Nigeria in knockout phase after failing to top Group F in three matches.
