Burna Boy won Best International Act at BET 2019, see his mom's reaction
The BET Awards ceremony revealed a lot of rising stars to the world! Every year, this award show is held to celebrate the achievements of many stars. The Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, got recognised too for his contribution to the Afro-fusion music genre. The star went home with the prestigious Best International Act award, and he will remember this moment for life!
The Best International Act nomination at this year's BET Awards was a real competition. Seven talented performers from France, UK, South Africa and Nigeria participated in the race for the award that recognised their hard work and influence on people throughout the past year. In a thrilling twist, the singer Burna Boy became the winner, beating not only fellow Nigerian musician Mr Eazi but also Aya Nakamura and Dosseh from France, Dave and Giggs from the UK, and AKA from South Africa.
Burna Boy: what did he receive an award for?
The talented musician, who is now the pride of Nigeria, is not new in the industry. He started making music at the age of ten, attempting to create beats on his old computer. From then, his journey in the world of tunes began.
The past year and a half were extremely productive for the Nigerian music talent, and he managed to become one of the big names not only for his native country's music industry but also internationally. At the beginning of 2018, he released his third studio album, titled "Outside". which was enjoyed by lovers of Afrobeat, reggae and dancehall music.
The entire year, Burna Boy promoted his album, and he succeeded in gaining thousands of new fans. For instance, the biggest hit of the record, the song "Ye", was acknowledged by many Nigerian publications as the greatest song of 2018 in Nigeria. As for Burna Boy, he got widely recognised as the most prominent artist of the year in Nigeria.
This was only the start of Damini's mind-blowing career. He sold out the concert at London's O2 Academy Brixton and became the New Afro Hub Takeover Artist on Spotify, as well as Artist on the Rise on YouTube. Together with his competitor on BET Awards, Mr Eazi, he performed at the Coachella festival. He became one of the most awarded artists at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.
Inspired by his success, the singer released a collaborative EP album consisting of four tracks together with DJDS. The title of his EP was "Steel & Copper". Now, the release of the new album "African Giant" is in his plans.

Burna Boy victory and his mother's reaction
The mother of the award-winning performer, Bose Ogulu, accepted the prize on behalf of her son. Apart from being his parent, she is also the talented musician's manager, which makes their work together so special. This was a very touching moment for the audience, which erupted in a round of applause and cheering.
Bose Ogulu started with expressing her gratitude to BET and Africa. In her moving speech, she said that the message from her son would be that all black people should remember that before everything, they were born Africans.
The speech of Burna Boy's mother attracted a lot of reaction on social media, particularly Twitter. The black community expressed their agreement with Bose Ogulu's words, stating that everyone should remember her essential message and keep it in their minds.
People also congratulated their favourite singer, feeling like he deserved this award more than anything.
