United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was believed to have turned down the swap deal because of concerns of Neymar's £900,000-a-week wages, and also the club are keen to keep Pogba.

Neymar currently earns double of what Alexis Sanchez earns at United, and Woodward was reportedly concerned about the impact that could have on the dressing room.

The 27-year-old is hoping to leave Paris Saint-Germain after just two years after he joined Barcelona in a world-record deal of £198million.
