President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the approval of a total sum of N208 billion to federal universities for the tackling of infrastructure deficiencies in the tertiary institutions.
Buhari made the announcement at the convocation of the University of Abuja adding that the approval was made through the tertiary education trust fund.

Represented by Sonny Echono, permanent secretary in the ministry of education, the president pleaded with the nation’s universities to help with solutions to the country’s various challenges.
Buhari noted the advantage the country has in its population how this can be harnessed to ensure the country shifts its focus from oil.
He promised that his government would continue to improve facilities in the nation’s universities.
Legit.ng earlier reported that President Muhammadu Buhari recently criticised Nigerian universities for its 'slowness' in research, discoveries and inventions several years after independence.
The president, in a statement he sent at the fourth convocation ceremony of the Federal University (FUDMA), Dutsinma, Katsina state, said it is saddening that Nigerian universities isn't strong in research and discoveries.
The president said:“It is not heart-warming that in our over 58 years of independence, Nigerian universities are slow in discoveries and inventions."
Meanwhile, the management of the University of Ibadan recently declared the cut-off mark for the premier institution remains 200 as against 160 agreed on by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) and stakeholders of higher institutions.

JAMB announced on Tuesday, June 11, that cut-off mark for admission into federal universities will be 160 for 2019.
It was gathered that JAMB and stakeholders at the 19th policy meeting on admissions to tertiary Institutions in Nigeria approved 160 and above as the national minimum benchmark for 2019 admission into public universities.
