Insecurity: Death toll in Niger bandits attack rises to 47
- The death toll from attacks by bandits on several communities in Niger state has reached 47
- The bandits attacked Kwaki, Ajatayi, Gwassa, Barden Dawaki, Gyammamiya and Alewa communities
- Those who survived the attacks are getting medical attention and the displaced are camped at different areas in the state
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) on Wednesday, June 12, said the casualty figure of the bandits attack on Kwaki, Ajatayi, Gwassa, Barden Dawaki, Gyammamiya and Alewa communities in Shiroro local government areas of the state has reached 47.
It should be noted that 12 people were reportedly killed earlier in the incident before Malam Salihu Garba, the head of NSEMA said the death toll has risen, Daily Trust reports.
The NSEMA chief said that out of the bodies recovered, 19 of them were from Kwaki community, adding that might have been the highest number of casualty recorded so far in the community.

He said: “As we speak, 47 bodies were recovered and buried. Out of the number, 19 were from Kwaki, including that of Sarkin Pawa who was shot and later died.”
Garba also added that 500 of the 2000 people displaced by the conflict were sheltered in a temporary camp arranged by the agency at Erena, while the 1500 others were at Kodobi, Zubba, and Galadima-Kogo communities.
The head of the agency mentioned that the injured are receiving treatments at various hospitals in Erena and Kuta, and others with very serious cases were referred to more advanced facilities outside the area.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the home of former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa was reportedly attacked by bandits and his security guard, Abdullahi Jijji, killed in the process.
The 16-year-old nephew of the former governor, Abdulrasheed Sa’idu, who was at the house at the time was also reported to have been kidnapped.

The director general, Bafarawa Foundation, Dr. Sulaiman Shu’aibu Shinkafi, who reportedly confirmed the incident said the attack occurred around 9pm on Friday, May 3.
According to him, the bandits, numbering about 60 and armed with AK47 riffles came on motorcycles and bought N5,000 fuel in the town before attacking the house.
