Gunmen launch attack in Nasarawa community, 2 persons killed

An attack in Gwanje community in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa Statehas left two people dead.

Channels TV reported that this was confirmed by the state commissioner of police, Bola Longe, on Saturday, May 4.

He said the attack occurred on Friday, May 3 but that the bodies were discovered the following day.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, cried about about the influx of bandits into states like Kaduna, Kano and Niger after fleeing Zamfara, Katsina.

Buratai, who spoke at a press conference at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, on the 'Reorganisation of Exercise Harbin Kunama III', claimed that the bandits are fleeing from Zamfara into this other states.

Sahara Reporters reports that the Army chief said the bandits are fleeing because of the successes recorded by the army in combating the criminals in states like Zamfara and Katsina.

Buratai also announced that the announced that the army would be conducting the special exercise in the affected areas to rid them of the bandits and other criminal elements.

The Army chief's statement was made barely hours after over 1,000 Yan sakai vigilante members reportedly surrounded Dandume divisional police station in Dandume local government to demand for the release and execution of some suspected bandits, Daily trust reports.

The vigilante group had earlier in the day apprehended 22 of the bandits who stormed Unguwar Madugu to purportedly carry out an attack on the village. This was said to have occurred before the arrival of security personnel
