10-year-old girl born without hands wins national handwriting competition in US (photos)
A 10-year-old girl born without hands has surpassed the expectations of many as she recently emerged as the winner of a national handwriting contest in the US.
The girl identified as Sara Hinesley, made the astonishing feat after competing in the 2019 Zaner-Boser National Handwriting Contest and earning the Nicholas Maxim Award.
According to reports by CNN, the award is usually given out to special students who have cognitive delay, or any intellectual, physical or developmental disability.
Hinesley, who is a third grader at St.John’s Regional Catholic School in Frederick Maryland, was said to have expressed interest in how to write cursive after her teacher taught her and she found that she had a natural talent for it.

She said: "I thought it was easy, and I practiced at school,"
The report further noted that the young girl who also won a prize money of about N180k expressed that she hopes other children living with disabilities will be inspired by what she has been able to achieve.
"I felt proud and hope others who have challenges learn from me, that if you try your hardest you can do it," little Sara said.

The young girl’s mother Cathryn Hinesley, also gushed over her daughter and revealed that she is a very independent girl who is strategic in the way she thinks.
"Sara is a very independent girl, she is very strategic in her thinking and she just figures out a way to complete every task." she said.
It was further reported that besides writing, Sara likes to create art, ride her bike, read and swim.

Her family briefly considered getting prosthetic hands for her but eventually decided she is doing fine without them.
Mrs Hinesley said: "She is so amazing and functional without prosthetic that really there is not a need. She can do just about anything, often times better than me or my husband."
