Insecurity: Zamfara government spends N35bn on logistics, assistance to victims - SSG

- The government of Zamfara says it has spent N35bn on logistics, assistance to victims of attack in the state

- The state government also said it had provided befitting office accommodation and other structures worth more than N10 million to the Nigerian Army to compliment the FG

- Governor Yari is also said to have set up a relief and damage assessment committee

The Zamfara state government on Tuesday, April 16, announced that it spent N35 billion to provide logistics, allowances for security agencies, and assist attack victims in the state.

Secretary to the Zamfara Government (SSG), Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, said this in Gusau while distributing relief materials to the victims of the attacks.

Shinkafi said that the relief materials were donated to the state by the wife of the president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari. He expressed appreciation to Buhari for the gesture of the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari.

According to him, since the unfortunate trend began, the state government has not relented in its collaborative efforts to support security agencies in their quest to address the menace.

He said that the Zamfara government, in complimenting the efforts of the federal government, had provided befitting office accommodation and other structures worth more than N10 million to the Nigerian Army.

“We have been supporting by providing logistics and allowance to security agencies, we have spent over N20 billion in this regard. We also provided 570 brand new Hilux and Range Rover Ford vehicles to the security agencies," he said.

He added that Governor Abdulaziz Yari had set up a relief and damage assessment committee headed by the speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji, to cater for the affected communities. He said the committee would assist the victims of banditry activities in the state.

“This committee is giving assistance in two forms, whenever there is attack they visit the affected community and render assistance to the victims.

“Each of the families of the deceased, received N500, 000 and N250, 000 for each of the injured person," he said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the secretary to the Zamfara state government, Professor Abdullahi Walin Shinkafi gave statistics of the total number of people of the state who lost their lives to the frequent attacks by bandits.

The government's scribe, who made the disclosure in an exclusive interview in his office, said at least 4000 people have been killed and more than 9000 injured in about 500 attacks.
