Breaking: Police dismiss 9 officers for gross misconduct

- The Police Service Commission has dismissed nine officers for gross misconduct

- The commission approved the reduction in rank of another six officers for different cases of misconduct

- The decisions of the commission have been conveyed to the IGP for implementation

Not less than nine police officers have been dismissed while six were demoted with immediate effect over alleged gross misconduct in the line of duty by the Nigerian Police Force.

The Police Force made this known in Abuja on Tuesday, April 9, in a statement by its spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, who said the dismissal and demotion followed the approval of the Police Service Commission (PSC)

Ani said the commission made the decisions as part of the outcome of its 5th plenary meeting held in Abuja on March, 26 and 27, and presided over by its chairman, Musiliu Adeola Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Part of the statement read: "The Police Service Commission has approved the dismissal of nine senior police officers for gross misconduct. The dismissal takes immediate effect. The Commission also approved the reduction in rank of another six Officers for different cases of misconduct.

"The commission’s decisions were part of the outcome of its 5th Plenary Meeting which held in Abuja on 26th and 27th of March, 2019 and presided over by its Chairman, Musiliu Adeola Smith, a retired Inspector General of Police.

"The commission also approved the punishment of severe reprimand for 5 officers and reprimand for another 5. One Officer, CP. Austin Agbonlahor was however exonerated."

The police spokesperson gave the names of those dismissed as: Abdul yahaya Ahmed, a superintendent of police who will also be prosecuted; Adamu Damji Abare, another SP who also had his promotion from SP to CSP withdrawn before his dismissal.

Others dismissed were; DSP Osondu Christian, DSP Samson Ahmidu and DSP Pius Timiala who will be prosecuted and whose promotion from DSP to SP was withdrawn.

Ani gave the names of four ASPs dismissed as Agatha Usman, Esther Yahaya, Idris Shehu and Usman Hassan Dass.

He also disclosed that Oluwatoyin Adesope and Mansir Bako were reduced in rank from SP to DSP while Gbenle Mathew; Tijani Saifullahi; Sadiq Idris and Alice Abbah were reduced from the rank of DSP to ASP.

He further disclosed that the commission further requested the IGP to furnish it with information on the punishment awarded to other officers mentioned in the Police Investigation Reports involving SP. Abare with regards to irregularities in the conduct of the 2011 recruitment exercise.

The police spokesperson said the commission’s decisions have been conveyed to the IGP for implementation in a letter signed by Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, the permanent secretary and secretary to the commission.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Police had announced the arrest of the suspected killers of a young Nigerian man, Kolade Johnson, who was hit by a stray bullet during a police raid in Lagos.

Police gave their names as Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan and Sgt Godwin Orji. It added that they had been apprehended and subjected to internal disciplinary procedures.
