Kano re-run: Declare our candidate Abba Yusuf winner now - PDP tells INEC

- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP has insisted that no election held in Kano state

- The opposition party also called on INEC to declare its candidate, Abba Yusuff, winner of the state guber election

- The party also vowed that attempt to override Kano people's will would be vehemently rejected

Moved by the gross breaches of electoral law, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has insisted that no election was held in Kano, calling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare its candidate, Abba Yusuf, winner of the March 23 re-run.

The opposition party made this known in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, and obtained by Legit.ng on Saturday, March 23.

According the PDP, ''the people of Kano state have since made up their minds to have Abba Yusuf as their governor''

It further vowed that any attempt by anybody to subvert their will ''as already expressed in the March 9 substantive poll'' will surely attract the legitimate anger of the masses.

The statement said: ''The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately declare our candidate, AbbaK. Yusuf, as the winner of the Kano governorship election, having scored the highest number of lawful votes and secured the statutory 25% in two-third of the state.

''The party insists that no valid polling held at the March 23 Kano supplementary elections and therefore no figures can be fabricated from the exercise to displace Abba Yusuf’s leading margin of over 26, 000 votes.

''INEC is already aware that its supplementary election in Kano was completely disrupted by thugs contracted by the All Progressives Congress (APC), who invaded polling units and chased away voters.

''The commission therefore cannot accept fabricated figures being bandied by the APC as results from the scuttled rerun.

The people of Kano state have since made up their minds to have Abba Yusuf as their governor and any attempt by anybody to subvert their will as already expressed in the March 9 substantive poll will surely attract the legitimate anger of the masses.

''We therefore call on INEC to immediately do the needful by respecting the will of the people as freely expressed on March 9 and announce Abba Yusuf, the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the winner of the election, having fulfilled the demands of Section 179 (2) of the 1999 constitution (as amended).''

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the national leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had condemned the alleged victimisation of its party members and agents following reports of violence that reportedly marred the supplementary election in Kano state.

In a statement released on Saturday, March 23, as a reaction to the reports of violence in the northwest state, PDP spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan alleged that thugs “aided by compromised security agents, have been on rampage, invading polling units where they are attacking PDP members and supporters with dangerous weapons.''
