Ten people have reportedly been killed by suspected herdsmen in a fresh attack on Tse Ioreleegeb, Babai council ward of Guma local government area of Benue state.
The police command in the state, however, said it recorded five deaths in the attack, which occurred in the late hours of Tuesday, March 19.
Vanguard reports that a source in the area said that the marauders stormed the community in a commando fashion from neighboring Nasarawa state and shot sporadically, killing anyone in sight.

Legit.ng notes that the source said: "The invaders also burnt down houses, huts and farmland in the community. As we speak the people who were taken unawares are moving in droves out of the community to neigbouring villages and Daudu for fear of being killed.”
The Guma local government council chairman, Anthony Shawon, confirmed the development, saying the attackers came in from neigbouring Nasarawa state.
He said: “10 persons were killed in the attack and the village has been razed. My appeal is that the personnel of the military Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, should be drafted to Ukpiam village to create a buffer between Benue and Nasarawa state in the border area to check the attacks because that was where they came from.”
According to the police public relations officer, Deputy Superintendent Catherine Anene, security has been beefed up in the area.
Field commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Major General Adeyemi Yekini, said circumstances surrounding the attack were being investigated by the Force.
