Breaking: PDP wins Ondo South senatorial district

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Otunba Nicholas Tofowomo, the senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of Ondo South senatorial election.

Tofowomo was declared winner of the election after scoring 81, 892 votes to defeat his closest rival, the incumbent senator, Yele Omogunwa of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 55, 610 votes.

Legit.ng gathers that the result was announced by INEC returning officer, professor Kayode Onifade in charge of Ondo South senatorial election in Ondo state after the senatorial supplementary election held on Saturday was concluded.

Recall that two weeks ago, INEC declared the Ondo South senatorial election inconclusive on the excuse that the margin of win by the candidate of the PDP was less than 28,300 of the total number of registered voters in the affected units where elections did not hold or were cancelled.

Tofowomo had initially polled 79,036 to defeat Senator Omogunwa who scored 51, 993, with vote margin of 27,036 when the election was declared inconclusive.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, March 10, declared candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winners of Lagos Island House of Assembly Constituencies 1 and 2 in Lagos state.

The results were declared at the INEC office in Lagos Island at about 3.40 a.m.

Professor Olaniyi Okedele of the University of Lagos, the returning officer for the Lagos Island House of Assembly Constituency 1, said that a total number of 21,237 votes were cast in the election, with 914 void votes and 20,323 valid votes.

Okedele said that 10 political parties were registered for the Lagos State House of Assembly by the INEC for constituency 1.

He said that Wasiu Sanni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 18,305 votes to beat his closest rival, Oluwaseun Dosunmu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 1,821 votes.

Okedele said: “Wasiu Olatunji Sanni of the APC having satisfied the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected having polled 18,305 votes."

Also, Prof Solomon Akinboye, of University of Lagos and the returning officer of Lagos Island House of Assembly Constituency 2 declared Olarenwaju Afinni of APC the winner.
