EFCC nabs fake Customs boss over employment scam
- EFCC has arrested a man for impersonating the comptroller general of Nigeria Customs Service Col. Hameed Ali (retd)
- The suspect, Azeez Yakubu Afolayan, was said to defrauded innocent Nigerians seeking employment into the service
- Afolayan who admitted to the crime under interrogation, is said to have defrauded his victims of about N1 million
The Ilorin zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested one Azeez Yakubu Afolayan for impersonating the comptroller general, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ali (retd), and using his name to scam job seekers.
Legit.ng reports that Afolayan was arrested by EFCC operatives on Monday, March 5, following complaints from one of his victims.
It was gathered that trouble started for him when a staff of the Customs Service, Hasaan Garba Muhammed, petitioned the EFCC, accusing him of defrauding innocent Nigerians and seeking employment into the service.

The suspect was said to have so far defrauded his victims of about N1 million.
The EFCC said that Afolayan admitted to the crime under interrogation.
He said: “I started duping people since 2017 up till date, I duped about five people, I collected different amount of money from my victims and all of them used to transfer money to my bank accounts.
“I used to tell them that I will help them to secure employment with the Nigerian Custom Services, but I was just scamming."
Some of the items recovered from him include, Nigerian Customs Service application forms, Customs employment letters, passports of some job seekers among others.
The commission said the victim would soon be charged to court.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the EFCC partnered security agencies in its quest to prevent the menace of vote buying in the governorship and state House of Assembly elections coming up on Saturday, March 3.
The Ibadan zonal head of the commission, Friday Ebelo, said this was the outcome of the courtesy visit made to the agencies in Ibadan on Tuesday, March 5.
