Just in: INEC to conduct supplementary elections

- According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there will be a supplementary elections

- This, INEC said, will make up for areas in the country where elections were not conducted on Saturday, February 23

- INEC said that the supplementary polls will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, alongside the governorship, state Assemblies polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that there will be supplementary elections in states of the country where they were not conducted on Saturday, February 23.

INEC said that the supplementary polls will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, alongside the governorship, state Assemblies and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council polls, The Nation reports.

Added to this, the electoral body directed its Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to submit detailed reports of violent incidents during the elections all over the country for due action.

The foregoing were some agreements reached during the meeting held between the management of INEC and all its RECs.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that INEC had cancelled elections that took place in Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers state on Saturday, February 23.

Legit.ng gathered that the decision of the electoral body followed the violence that engulfed the area during voting on Saturday.

The decision was confirmed by the resident electoral commissioner for the south-south state Obo Effanga.
